Bruce Ronald Funeral & Unexpected Expenses
Donation protected
Dear friends and family,
When my friends encouraged me to create a GoFundMe I didn't want to hear anything about it. It makes me uncomfortable and a little bit embarrassed and I have a hard time asking for help to begin with. But life is continuing to throw curveball after curveball and I am quickly realizing I need to let go of my pride a bit.
As many of you know, my father, Bruce Ronald, unexpectedly passed away on June 11, 2022. He suffered from a basilar artery occlusion, an incredibly rare form of an acute stroke. Less than one-percent (1%) of all strokes account for them. His neurologist told me that he had a better chance at winning the mega millions, which, if you knew my dad, he played regularly.
You might not know though that my dad struggled quite a bit financially and received limited disability income in the last few years of his life. He was just shy of turning 65 and becoming eligible for Medicare. What does that mean for me? It means that I am faced with settling a presumed to be huge medical bill after four (4) days of the utmost wonderful care at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Neuro ICU. It means that there's no life insurance policy. It means there's extremely limited funds in his checking account. It means there's no retirement. It means there's no savings. It means there's just no funds.
But that didn't matter to my husband or me. We took on the primary financial responsibility of paying for his cremation and memorial service, draining our savings of $8,000+. A incredibly hard hit for us as we are actively pursuing adding another child to our family via in vitro fertilization (IVF) and having just spent/financing thousands of more dollars, to make that happen. We're just drained. Emotionally and financially.
But the hits have kept coming. We are now the proud owners of my dad's dog, Apollo. Upon taking Apollo to our veterinarian this week, we didn't get the "he's an old dog" spiel. We got heartbreaking news that he needs immediate and urgent surgery on his two (2) back knees, as his ACLs are torn and patella tendons shot. Our vet, who we have a longstanding relationship with, has already graciously discounted his surgery given our current circumstances. Despite that discount, the cost is still over $4,000.
Many of you have asked how you can help during these difficult times, and we have been at a loss for words. But you can help, if you’d like. If you wish, please donate to help pay for these unexpected and all too soon expenses. Your donation would be appreciated. Thank you so much.
