My name is Ronald, I have had the shocking news of being diagnosed with Stage IV Prostate Cancer at the end of September. After a routine blood test that measured my PSA level, my doctor called and told me the test came back at over 300 (the normal level should be 0). He then sent me to a Urologist and a biopsy was completed which confirmed that all areas of the prostate are cancerous and have begun to spread to other areas of the body.

My doctors are recommending a treatment of a new medication called Erleada, which is a drug that will kill the cancer cells in the body but does not harm any other tissues in the body. Unfortunately, this is a new drug and costs over $13,400 a month. However, my doctors are insistent that I take this medication immediately to stop the spread of the cancer. With Medicare, it will cover 80%, which leaves me with an out-of-pocket cost of $2,680. Many of the tests and scans are not covered at all by Medicare and I have had to pay cash up front. The largest cost will be when I start radiation therapy which will be the next step of my treatment.

I have been juggling the out-of-pocket cost of the doctors, scans and other various treatments the last 2 and half months, but I am at the end of my ability to meet these expenses without losing everything. It has been a desperate search to figure out how to afford my treatment and I would be extremely grateful for any help you can offer.
