Rona's Cancer Fight

Donation protected
Hi Everyone,

I Have Set Up This Go Fund Me To Help Contribute To The Financial Strain Cancer Has Caused My Mam Rona.

Mam Was Diagnoised With Stage 4 Lymphoma In 2012. In 2012 She Was Placed On "Watch &  Wait" & Proceeded To Have Her First Treatment In 2013 As The Disease Progressed. After 8 Months Of RCVP Treatment & Various Medical Procedures Mam Reached Remission.
That Remission Was Short Lived As 10 Short Months Later The Cancer Returned While Still On A Maintenance Of Rituximanb Antibody She Relasped. On This Maintance The Hope Was To Keep Remission To The 5 Year Mark But Sadly She Only Got To 10 Months. She Was Kept On The Antibody For 2 Years As It Kept It Somewhat Stable Until The Next Treatment.Mam Finished Maintance But Still On Watch & Wait Constant Hospital Appointments Which Lead To Liver & Spleen Issues Which In Turn The Cancer Progressed & Grew Slowly Over The Next Few Years. In 2017 After A Long Hospital Stay She Developed Haematoma As Her Liver & Spleen Became Enlarged Due To The Progression Of The Disease. She Was Then Told The Cancer Was Refractory & Would Be Resistant To Other Chemotherapy Treatments. She Was Told Her Only Hope For Survival Would Be An Autologous Stem Cell Transplant But She Would Have To Have RICE chemotherapy treatment.Which Began September 2019 Which Involved 3/4 Hospital Admissions Every 3 Weeks  As The Chemotherapy Is So Toxic. In Between This Phase Countless Trips To St James Hospital In Dublin Where She Was Admitted & Had To Have Her Own Stem Cells Harvested & Other Procedures Including  A Bone Marrow Biopsy Where A Pet Scan Revealed That This RICE Treatment  Had Only Reduced The Cancer By 48% Which Basically Removed The Option Of The Auto Stemcell Transplant. Consultations in Dublin Advised That Treating Mam With Chemotherapy Based Drugs Had No Positive Effect & Been Refractory,  They decided to change the agent to a new radio immunotherapy drug trial which she had in december 2019 with a pet scan in january showing 0% effectiveness at killing the remaining 48%. The Only Option Left For Mam Is A Donor Stem Cell Transplant (allowgeneic stem cell transplant) . A suitable donor had to be found as mam has no full siblings. She was then placed on a bridge to transplant treatment of a idelalisib chemotherapy drug & obinotuzimab antibody. A Donor Has Been Found On The European Donor Bank. Currently where mam is medically she is awaiting admission to st james hospital dublin for the allowgeneic stem cell transplant. This transplant involves 7 days of  extensive high dose chemotherapy conditioning . On day 0 after the conditioning the donor cells are transplanted & possibly 6 weeks in a unit isolated  no visitors and reduced contact even with staff due to the covid-19. Mam will have no immune system while we wait for the new cells to graph to the host which is mam they have to attach to the bone marrow and start growing and producing while on a lot of medication while hoping she picks up no infections as this could be fatal. There is no real financial help on the ground to support cancer patients . Mam applied last year for  help and got only 200€ from the marie Keating foundation while she is grateful for that the endless trips to dublin and limerick hospital have had a huge financial strain on her. Mam is been admitted to St james hospital in dublin tomorrow 21/8/2020 & the stress and financial burden is all too much as she will be gone for 3 possibly 4 months maximum and will have to stay close to the hospital after her transplant after she released from the unit if she is released. Hospital accommodation IF AVAILABLE will be provided but there is no guarantee as we have just found out today so she may have to go to a hotel or bnb at her own expense. While We As A Family Have Been supportive in every way we can its  not possible to carry this on our own.
