Ronald John Ridings Sr., Past Grand Knight of Little Flower Council 1976 gained his angel wings on December 15, 2019 surrounded by his adoring family.
Ron (Reg) was an unforgettable man, husband, dad, grandfather/poppy, brother, uncle, and friend. His warm smile was welcoming to all. He was quick to break into song and dance to lighten the mood or pump it up. Watching Ron and Mary, his beautiful bride of 55 years, dance was a pleasure for anyone to witness. He loved telling dad jokes, making impressions, and playing innocent pranks. His tales of growing up on the West Side of New York City in Hell's Kitchen are legendary.
As many of you know, "Mr. Ron" was an active member of the Shrine of the Little Flower and St. Isaac Jogues communities. As a coach and Athletic Commissioner, he was dedicated to developing youth potential through athleticism and sportsmanship. During the Fall, you could find him reading books on soccer techniques and drawing up plays on notepads. He gently nudged his players to dig deeper, do their best many of whom were more than happy to play their heart out for Mr. Ron. We can still hear him on the field saying, "Trow da ball" or "Practice is on Saday."
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ron Ridings Sr. Memorial Fund for Youth Sports. All proceeds will be donated to Baltimore City Recreation- Patterson Park Youth Soccer at Utz Field and Volo City Kids Foundation. Both organizations offer free access to youth to participate in team sports. We can think of no grander way to honor our dad then to continue the wonderful work he started supporting youth development.
