On September 29, 2021, our friend Ron Islas went into Tucson Medical Center with a medical emergency not knowing that he was about to begin a fight for his life followed by a long recovery period. The four days after his arrival at TMC were very uncertain until it was determined that he was infected with West Nile Virus which triggered a stroke. It was only then that a treatment plan could be administered and by then he had lost motor skills in both arms and legs. Many of you know Ron Islas as one of the toughest people - both, mentally and physically - you have met in your life. Ron is still that same man as demonstrated by his ability to survive this life altering illness and his hard work to regain the use of his limbs, again.
We have decided that one way to help him is to create this campaign to make sure he gets the best possible care through this arduous and lengthy recovery which includes speech, occupational, and physical therapy among other things. The campaign helps ease the financial burden of this type of care and creates the space to focus entirely on his recovery activities. We also would like to take some pressure off Jill, who is not only Ron's primary caregiver, but continues to be an amazing mom to their son Joaquin while working from home.
This same group of friends is currently coordinating other activities all aimed to help Ron and his family during a very challenging period. As such, we ask that you please reach out Rina Valdez or Ricardo Leon if you have questions or comments as Ron and his family will be focused entirely on his well-being. We will provide periodic updates to indicate the value your contribution makes to Ron’s journey to recovery.
