“For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to give you hope and a future.” -Jeremiah 29:11
This verse hangs on a plaque in the Helping Hands Healing Hearts children’s home. It serves as a reminder that each and every child who walks through the door of the home knows that they are worthy and loved. It is a reminder that God has a plan for each of them, and that their difficult pasts do not have to dictate their futures. When you meet the children, their big, brown, beautiful eyes draw you in and their smiles keep you there. But their stories will break your heart: A little boy who was found abandoned in his crib, a young girl with leukemia whose parents cannot afford her medical care, a sibling set of 3, desperate to stay together, a little girl who asks daily if a mommy has been found for her. The Lord is near to the broken hearted and I’m confident He’s near to these children.
According to the United Nations’ Children’s Rights and Emergency Relief Organization, there are approximately 1.8 million Filipino children who are abandoned or neglected due to extreme poverty, natural disasters, and armed conflicts. This is more than 1% of the entire population. Helping Hands Healing Hearts is a children’s home located in Baguio City, Philippines.

It is a home dedicated to serving the Lord through by serving the sick, abandoned, poor, and orphaned children of the Philippines. The caregivers are Christian men and women who have dedicated their lives to taking care of these children, teaching them about Jesus, loving them like sons and daughters, and preparing them for reunification with family or adoption.

The home shares a very special place in our hearts. It’s a home we will never forget. A home we firmly believe God led us to....
Because it’s the home where we met our son.

Ariel and I adopted from Helping Hands in 2016. While we were there meeting and picking up our son, the Lord placed it on my heart that we would return to the Philippines one day. After much prayer and discussion, we made a family decision that we would like to spend next summer volunteering our time and services to the children of Helping Hands. We want to share the love of Jesus with them, we want to shower them with love and attention, we want to cook for them, and we want to share their joy when their forever families come, or when they are able to be reunited with family in the Philippines. Our kids want to serve as well. They are excited to help out with the younger children, lead devotions, sing with them, and just “love up on them.”
We want to be the hands and feet of Jesus, even if just for a summer.
In order to care for these children, we need the help and support of friends like you. Our church, NEXT Church in Brevard, has been working with us and has offered to be our point of support which will allow any contributions to be tax deductible. Ariel and I will be without work for 8-9 weeks while we are in the Philippines. Will you consider supporting us on our mission? Our support goal is approximately $15,000, which will allow us to travel and meet our basic needs for this mission trip. Any amount is appreciated and will go towards our volunteering and serving. Helping Hands Healing Hearts will receive all funds in excess of our basic requirements.
We have set up a tax-deductible donation page through NEXT Church. You can send directly through us if you prefer. If you cannot give financially, will you consider praying for us? We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Sincerely,
Ariel, Holly, Matthew, Zane, Colton, Hudson, Harper (and the doggy Bentley) Romero
