Last month, August 2022, my little brother Rome went to the ER because he was having pain issues and swelling in his throat that affected his voice. They found out that a tumor was growing inside his thyroid and was pushing into his vocal cords. Last week a biopsy was done; on Thursday, September 8th, he will be having surgery to have the tumor removed. Due to the tumor's size and placement, it is unknown if his vocal cords will be affected or if it is cancerous until the surgery takes place.
My brother is a hardworking father of two teenage girls. The eldest has just started college. Besides having his side business in collectible comics @ComicHorde, his primary source of income involves managing and booking appointments for home health nurses. So he needs his voice to conduct business.
We don't know what the results will show, and we cannot anticipate how much time he will need to recover. We DO know that Rome likes to talk and tell stories. Even if he sounds like Vito Corleone and struggles to get air between sentences, he will still have something to say. The challenge here is to force him to rest so he can recover completely. With your support, you can help ease the financial burden my brother is forced to bear on his own so that he can focus on wellness.
In "The Empire Strikes Back," Jedi Master Yoda is training Luke Skywalker on the planet Dagobah. They come to the mouth of a very dark and scary cave. Luke stops. He's scared and hesitates because all he sees is darkness. Yoda tells him to keep going and go into the cave. Luke asks, "Why? What's in there?" Yoda replies, "Only what you bring with you."
As Romeo begins this journey of uncertainty, we can all help by showing him that whatever lies ahead, he will not have to carry such a heavy load with him.
Thank you for your prayers.
