Romeo Road to Recovery

I sat blankly at the screen for quite some time at the bold heading “Tell Me Your Story” on the top of this Go Fund Me Page. The truth is - My heart breaks for my dear friend Brooke as her story has changed traumatically over the last four months. She spends her days traveling to and from the hospital locally and now across states. A time where most families are sharing their stories in the comfort of their homes cuddled up with their kids and sitting beside the Christmas tree - my sweet friend spends her days fighting for answers on her husbands health that ultimately led to a diagnosis of acute hepatitis of the liver and signs of cirrhosis.

For most, this diagnosis would absolutely defeat a person, but not Brooke. Instead she decided to bring awareness to this disease and show comfort and support to anyone that may also be dealing with alcoholism in their life.

Brooke shares her story with the world below. What a brave and vulnerable act.

He began drinking heavily as soon as we went into lockdown and it spiraled out of control pretty quickly to where he became dependent.

I am sharing this seemingly personal information because the stigma of alcoholism has prevented him for getting help as well as myself to reach out fully when it got painfully dark.

You’re not a bad person, or a weak person. Addiction can take the most beautiful, strong, and worthy people and I hope anyone struggling with it understands that.

Brooke has now spent Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Dominicks birthday torn between her home and her husband’s side in the hospital. The medical expenses and traveling expenses are increasing at a rapid rate. Brooke is financially balancing all of this while being a stay at home mom to three beautiful children. I am asking everyone to send Brooke and her family all the love, support, prayers, and good vibes as you can. The Romeo Road to Recovery is long, but hopeful. If you are able and willing to support Brooke and her family in a monetary donation our hearts would be forever grateful.

Dominick currently resides at Virginia Commonwealth University, where they specialize in acute hepatitis. He still awaits a liver transplant.

Please keep them in your hearts in the days to come and pray that a Christmas miracle will bring Dominick a liver and begin the healing process.
