Romeo & Juliet: Create accessible theater with Aleah Black
Donation protected
Hello!
My name is Aleah Black, sometimes known online as Gendersauce! I'm so grateful that you're here.
This May 31st and June 1st, I am performing in a 4 person version of Romeo & Juliet in Prospect Park NYC. Our band of players has cut the show so that all roles can be played by 4 actors (and has re-cast the adults as puppets). The result is a deeply ridiculous, one hour long, clown version of Romeo & Juliet.
We believe that difficult times require a response of joyful, irreverent art. We care deeply about making accessible performance for our communities. Tickets will be totally by donation, with all proceeds going to the Envision Freedom Fund, a coalition that raises bail money for immigrants and those seeking asylum in NYC.
In order to make sure our performers in this production receive a livable wage, we need your help! Funds for this campaign will be used to pay our actors and designer & purchase materials for puppets and costumes.
Creating strange, gay, campy theater in times of fascism is an age old tradition. Laughing at tragedy can help us survive it. We are delighted to bring the opportunity to our community. You're are warmly invited to attend the show, whether or not you can afford to contribute to our campaign.
Lots of love,
Aleah
