Romanian Orthodox Church Dome Project

Descent of the Holy Ghost Romanian Orthodox Church is a staple in the town of Merrillville, Indiana. For 48 years, the building has stood tall overlooking the busy streets of Harrison and 61st Avenue. As a close community, we are looking for your help in donating your generously earned income to restore our dome. Since the dome has experienced some wear-and-tear, for some years, it has resulted in frequent water leaks inside the altar and we cannot complete this project without your help and generosity. In the past, repairs have been made, however now, a new coating over the entire dome is the only solution to prevent damage to the altar.

Descent of the Holy Ghost is one of the oldest Romanian Orthodox Churches in the United States, celebrating 115 years in September 2023. The parish was founded in 1908 by a small group of Romanian immigrants in Gary, Indiana.
