Romanian Computer Science Olympians

High schools in Romania are known to graduate many computer science prodigies. But due to financial hardship, only a small fraction of these talented students get a chance to realize their full potential.
Some of these students are lucky to have the opportunity to participate in international competitions where their stellar performance doesn’t go unnoticed. For these lucky students, attending a global competition is a once in a lifetime opportunity!
But many are not so lucky. For 9 high school students from Grigore Moisil Computer Science High School in Brașov this happy scenario is just out of reach. After taking home top prizes in local and regional pre-qualifying stages, these bright high school programmers have been invited to compete in the prestigious final competition hosted by the American Computer Science League (ACSL) on May 29 in Newbury Park, California.
Unfortunately, they lack the money needed to travel to the US—approximately $3,000 per student required for transportation and housing. Without financial support, they won't get their fair chance at competing alongside 250 elite teams featuring some of the finest high school programmers in the world. And that would be a shame.
As an alum of Grigore Moisil Computer Science High School, I put together this fundraising campaign because I believe in these students' talent and great potential. I hope you will join me in supporting this campaign to raise part of the funds necessary to cover their trip.

**All funds raised in this campaign will be used to cover expenses for the students' trip to the American Computer Science League (ACSL) annual competition on May 29, 2017 in Newbury Park, California, US. In addition to donating to the cause, I pledge to cover all fees associated with this GoFundMe campaign so that each and every dollar you give will be spent to further their cause. Based on GoFundMe's terms, I will be withdrawing the funds into my personal bank account, then transfer them via PayPal to Prof. Manuela Corina Serban, the coordinator of the student group at Grigore Moisil Computer Science High School in Brasov.

Din 2001, elevii Colegiului National de Informatica "Grigore Moisil" Brasov au fost in fiecare an prezenti la competitia mondiala ACSL. Ei sunt pregatiti sa continue aceasta traditie a succesului international si au nevoie de sustinerea ta.
DESPRE ACSL
Dupa cum se intampla anual, de 39 de ani, in decembrie 2016 s-a dat startul unei noi editii a prestigiosului concurs international de informatica organizat de American Computer Science League (ACSL) pentru elevii de liceu.
In urma scorurilor cumulative pe echipe, au fost selectate echipele care vor participa in etapa finala (All-Star Contest) alaturi de cele mai bune echipe din concurs. Printre cei selectati sa participe in finala ACSL 2017 se numara si elevii Colegiului National de Informatica „Grigore Moisil” Brasov, recunoscuta pepiniera de informaticieni, cu un palmares intern si international impresionant.

Ajuta elevii de la Colegiul National de Informatica „Grigore Moisil” Brasov sa se intoarca gloriosi dintr-o noua confruntare internationala a tinerelor elite.
La concursul de anul acesta, elevii brasoveni au concurat in prima faza in etape de calificare alaturi de reprezentantii a 225 de licee din Statele Unite, Canada, Europa si Japonia dovedind, intr-un regim de mare obiectivitate, ca pregatirea lor in domeniul programarii calculatoarelor este excelenta.
Confruntarea finala intre cele mai bune plasate licee (ACSL All-Star Contest ) va avel loc in luna mai 2017 la Newbury Park High School, 456 N. Reino Rd., Newbury Park, CA 91320, SUA.
Elevii Colegiului National de Informatica „Grigore Moisil” Brasov au nevoie de ajutorul nostru pentru a strange fondurile necesare deplasarii la etapa finala din California.

Aceasta campanie este organizata de un grup de absolventi ai Colegiului National de Informatica "Grigore Moisil" in colaborare cu Prof. Manuela Serban (Coconea), coordonatorul echipei de elevi. Toate fondurile stranse for fii transferate echipei pentru a acoperi costurile de deplasare la competitia finala din SUA. Organizatorii campaniei de finantare vor acoperi inclusiv comisioanele percepute de platforma GoFundMe.
ISTORIC CAMPANIE
In 2016, o campanie GoFundMe similara a rezultat in strangerea a aproape $5,000 pentru a asigura participarea elevilor de la Grigore Moisil in etapa finala a concursului ACSL. Rezultatele lor au vorbit de la sine: echipa de seniori a obtinut locul I, cea de intermediari locul IV si cea de juniori locul VI, in randul celor peste 200 de licee participante in concurs anul trecut.
Prin intermediul campaniei de anul acesta, vrem sa asiguram participarea acestor elevi talentati si in finala 2017 a concursului ACSL, pentru care s-au calificat in urma unor rezultate promitatoare.
