Roman Weber #TinyButMighty

This is Roman Mateo Weber, he is 16 months old and is currently at the Children’s hospital in Minneapolis. Roman is the youngest child to my best friend Matt Weber. I have known Matt for 16 years and I am the godparent to his oldest son Westin. I would do anything for Matt, his wife Shannon and their kids. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to fix what this little boy is dealing with right now. That is when I thought of starting a go fund me page for them.

On February 1st 2020, Roman was admitted to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN for a reaction to an antibiotic he was prescribed for an ear infection. It caused him to become very dehydrated and he stayed in the hospital for 2 days. During that stay, he had an ultrasound and X-ray which showed some abnormalities to his left kidney and left ureter. This was an incidental find. Matt and Shannon followed up with Romans primary pediatrician and were immediately referred to a Pediatric Urologist at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis.

Then on Wednesday, February 19th, Roman went through a days worth of tests including a Reno-gram and VCUG testing. After his test results were reviewed, the Urologist determined Roman had a Grade 5 Ureteral Reflux and Hydronephrosis of his Left Kidney. He was scheduled for surgery for Friday, February 21st.

Procedures performed during surgery were the following: Cystoscopy with left retrograde, left ureteral reimplant with tapering, and left distal ureterectomy.

Roman’s surgery was successful and he went home late afternoon the next day. Roman went home with a stent and tube to help relieve the left kidney system during recovery. He was recovering well at home and Matt and Shannon were managing his pain accordingly and watching him closely. As was his big brother, Westin!

Then on Sunday, March 1st, Matt and Shannon knew something wasn’t right and after speaking with Romans doctor, they brought him into the Children's MPLS Emergency Department. They ran several tests and labs and determined that he had a severe Urinary Tract Infection and his body was starting to enter into (Urosepsis) which is a type of sepsis that is caused by an infection in the urinary tract. He was admitted that day and continues to be monitored. He is receiving multiple antibiotics to treat the infection and has been given strict orders on his discharge requirements. It was determined during this stay that there were no direct surgical complications and that all of the surgical procedures were still intact and functioning as they should be. It will be one day at a time to be discharged - but they are hoping and praying he will be home soon!

Matt and Shannon love their kids so much that they will do whatever it takes to make sure they are healthy. Currently they are not thinking about the multiple medical bills that will begin to pour in later down the road because their only concern currently is Roman and making him better.

We all know how medical bills can pile up, and how stressful it can be. So that is why I am starting this go fund me page. Hoping that this could relieve a little stress later down the road when they are trying to figure out how to pay for the many hospital stays, blood work, scans/x-rays, and surgery bills that will soon enough come.

I appreciate you for taking the time to read a little bit about Roman, he is a happy, giggly little boy and we hope he is discharged from the hospital soon and can return to being that happy little boy again.

Thank you as well for any you are able to help and if you are willing, could you please share the link on your facebook timeline.
