Help Calvin sideline bowel cancer and go for gold at the para Commonwealth Games in May 2022.

Illness and hard times are not discriminatory. They can affect anyone at any time from any demographic.  Calvin's had more than his fair share of adversity, now dealing with bowel cancer whilst visually impaired, but with the dream of a lifetime within touching distance.

Calvin, 42, who is married to his devoted wife Shelley and has two wonderful children, was diagnosed with bowel cancer seven weeks ago and is undergoing intensive chemotherapy. Fortunately, he is feeling quite well, which is keeping his dream alive of competing in the para Commonwealth Games in Birmingham in 2022.  One can only imagine not being able to see the Doctors, Nurses and treatments in front of him, but Calvin has a remarkably strong sense of humour and perspective.

As a result of a car accident 20+ years ago, Calvin lost 95% of his sight but, with a determination to remain positive, he became a renowned self-employed Massage Therapist.  With this latest cancer hurdle, Calvin has had to downscale his business, and will need to further downscale it in order to chase his dream of competing in the Commonwealth games.

Calvin is the only WA visually impaired athlete to be selected for the trials to make the Birmingham team but Team Calvin needs help to get there.  Team Calvin includes Calvin's sighted Bowls Director and Calvin's wife Shelley. Anthony Burnham has initiated a 24hr Bowlathon to raise money for Team Calvin starting at 1pm Tuesday 25th January and bowling straight thru till 1pm on Tuesday 26th January (Australia Day) at the Harvey Bowling Club.  Support crew includes Sid Hayes, the Men's Captain of the Harvey Bowling Club who will pace himself alongside Anthony during the 24 hour bowlathon.

How can you help ?     Sponsor Anthony in his fundraising quest or donate direct to Team Calvin. Bridging Communities is a licensed Charity with a Charitable Collections Licence which is run by volunteers and takes no fees - the only fees payable are those charged by Go Fund Me.
