BCYA Roller Field Maintenance Equipment Needed !

Hundreds of families participate in youth sports at Roller Field every year. This spring 388 kids participated in BCYA baseball and soccer! Thousands of kids have played at Roller Field over it's 4 decades as Bloom Carroll's home field for youth sports.

Unfortunately all of that usage wears on the fields - we continue to have water drainage issues primarily due to the heavily compacted soil. Our kids missed out on weeks of practice while waiting for the fields to dry out.

BCYA does not have the funds to build new fields or install drainage tile - but I'm hoping we can come together as a community to purchase a gently used core aerator to help improve field conditions.

It's recommended that sports fields be aerated 2-4 times every year. Core aeration removes plugs of soil (see photo below) to help get air and nutrients to roots, gives water a place to go, and alleviates compaction.

It's extremely expensive to have a service do this on an ongoing basis, a better solution is for BCYA to purchase a ride-on aerator for both soccer fields and the baseball outfields.

If each family that participated in sports at Roller in the last year chipped in $25 (cost of a soccer ball) we'd have enough to buy a used aerator! Please help us improve what little facilities we have at Bloom Carroll.
