Support Doug Benson: A Lifelong Dungeon Master and Army Veteran in Need
Doug Benson has spent over 40 years sharing his love for role-playing games, inspiring thousands of people to explore new worlds, forge friendships, and discover the joy of storytelling. As a long-time Dungeon Master, Doug has volunteered countless hours to help others learn, grow, and embrace the magic of tabletop gaming, building a community of friends and fans along the way.
Beyond his passion for gaming, Doug is a U.S. Army veteran who served as a combat engineer from 1984 to 1988, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Rising to the rank of sergeant, Doug displayed the same dedication and resilience in his military service that he has brought to every aspect of his life. Doug isn’t just a cornerstone of the gaming world; he’s a dedicated bartender and bar manager, a loving husband to Ava, and a proud father to his son, Zach.
Tragically, Doug recently lost his leg due to an infection caused by flesh-eating bacteria—a life-altering event that has placed an enormous financial and emotional strain on his family. Doug now faces significant medical bills for his surgery and recovery, alongside the costs of adapting to life with one leg. Despite his resilience and determination, this journey is one he and his family cannot navigate alone.
We are reaching out to the community that Doug has supported for decades—whether you’ve sat at his table, been inspired by his stories, or simply share his passion for gaming. Your donations will help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation, and the tools Doug needs to rebuild his life and continue doing what he loves.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a world of difference. If you’re unable to donate, sharing this campaign with your friends and networks is another powerful way to help.
Let’s come together to support Doug in his time of need, just as he’s supported so many of us. Thank you for being part of his story.
