Story Synopsis / Sinopsis del Documental

The Washington State Lowrider’s Car Club was founded in 2022 by Jason Pastor-O’Neel and Cris Avila in memory of Mya Avila. Together Jason and Cris built a space for healing, transforming grief into a collective journey of pride and resilience. As the up-and-coming lowrider club in Eastern Washington prepares for a new season of car shows and a new chapter in their lives, Jason, Cris, and new member Daniel Brito-Martinez, challenge stereotypes and celebrate a culture rooted in resistance since the late 1940s. As forces attempt to rip the Latino community apart, Roll Modelz is a statement about embracing your culture, rebuilding your future, and proving that what was once discarded can still roll with pride and power.

El club de autos lowrider del estado de Washington fue fundado en 2022 por Jason Pastor-O’Neel y Cris Avila en memoria de Mya Avila, la hija de Cris, quien falleció trágicamente en un incidente de tránsito. Frente al dolor, Jason y Chris crearon un espacio de sanación—transformando la pérdida personal en un viaje compartido de orgullo, resistencia y afirmación cultural. Mientras este club emergente del este de Washington se prepara para una nueva temporada de exhibiciones y un nuevo capítulo en sus vidas, Jason, Cris y el nuevo miembro Daniel Brito-Martínez desafían estereotipos y honran una tradición de rebeldía que se remonta a los años 40.

Bios / Biografías

Yahir Tzec-Carrasco is a Chicano filmmaker and photographer from Portland, Oregon. He has a B.A. in Film & Media Studies from Whitman College, where he worked on several short films and a mini web series. His work focuses on documenting up-and-coming artists and athletes in the Pacific Northwest, especially those from underrepresented communities. After Roll Modelz, Yahir wants to continue using his skills to share Latino-centric stories.

Yahir Tzec-Carrasco es un cineasta y fotógrafo chicano de Portland, Oregón. Tiene una licenciatura en Estudios de Cine y Medios por Whitman College, donde trabajó en varios cortometrajes y una mini serie web. Su trabajo se enfoca en documentar a artistas y atletas emergentes del Noroeste del Pacífico, especialmente aquellos provenientes de comunidades subrepresentadas. Después de Roll Modelz, Yahir quiere seguir usando sus habilidades para contar historias centradas en la comunidad latina.

Oliver Rodriguez Dickson is a Mexican American filmmaker and actor from Olympia, Washington. His first short documentary film, Sky, premiered at the Portland Film Festival 2024, and earned official selections for both the Santa Fe Film Festival and Short. Sweet. Film Fest in 2025. In his work, Oliver highlights people who embrace their culture and identity in order to serve a cause greater than themselves.

Su primer cortometraje documental, Sky, se estrenó en el Festival de Cine de Portland 2024 y fue seleccionado oficialmente por el Festival de Cine de Santa Fe y el Short. Sweet. Film Fest en 2025. En su trabajo, Oliver resalta a personas que abrazan su cultura e identidad para servir a una causa más grande que ellos mismos.

Dasha Levin is an award-winning Mexican American documentary filmmaker from San Diego, California. As a graduate of Dodge College of Film and Media Arts with a Bachelor's Degree in Documentary Filmmaking, Levin has a passion for sharing stories based on social issues, underrepresented communities, LGBTQ+ rights, environmentalism, and equality. Levin's films have been screened at many Academy qualifying festivals, winning the nexGEN Filmmaker Award at the Berkshire International Film Festival, and recently won Best Student Documentary at the Cannes Emerging Filmmaker Showcase presented by the American Pavilion.

Dasha Levin es un cineasta documental mexicoamericano galardonado, originario de San Diego, California. Graduado de Dodge College of Film and Media Arts con una licenciatura en Realización de Documentales, Levin tiene una profunda pasión por contar historias relacionadas con temas sociales, comunidades subrepresentadas, derechos LGBTQ+, ambientalismo e igualdad. Sus películas han sido proyectadas en numerosos festivales calificadores para los Premios de la Academia, obteniendo reconocimientos como el Gran Premio del Jurado a la Mejor Película Estudiantil en el Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival, el Premio nexGEN Filmmaker en el Berkshire International Film Festival, y gano Mejor Documental Estudiantil en el Pavilion Americano en Cannes Film Festival.
