Roland set out for his 20th year on Friday, July 29th, to ride in the Make-A-Wish foundation event to bless the life of another less fortunate soul. As he wrote, the reason for his ride this year:

"One, after a two year in person ride hiatus due to COVID, we plan on riding in person again this year. It will be great to be reunited with my WAM family, including our wish families and riders after again soon. Two, we are celebrating 35 incredible years of this event granting wishes to Michigan children with critical Illnesses. Our goal is to raise 35 million by the time this year is over - an incredible milestone! Three, my first WAM ride was in 1999 and I was hooked ever since! This year will be my 20th year participating in this ride. That's over 6,000 official event miles not including the thousands of training miles each year to prepare for this event. Lastly, but most important, I get to ride to help raise money for Wishes that shifts the focus from hospital stays, treatments and surgeries to kids believing in better days ahead."

On the second day of their heroic fundraising, the strenuous ride was tragically halted, affecting the team of five bikers. Lives were devastatingly lost, and bodies were broken.

We set up this fund for those who would like to nourish the Pascua family financially. Specifically, to assist with emergency services to save Roland’s precious life, including ambulance and airlifting him to two different trauma centers, a multitude of specialty surgeries, an extensive hospital stay, and the long-term care that Roland will need, including mental, physical, and occupational therapies. Roland's family is aware of and is pursuing available relief to aid in his full recovery with the help of legal representation.

This trauma has depth and breadth, extending to many areas of Roland and his family’s lives. Currently, Roland is in ICU and in critical condition. His body has endured significant damage as a result of being hit by an intoxicated driver impatiently passing a truck.

May God bless those whose lives have been impacted by this tragedy.

Honored to know this beautiful family, Jeff and Rebecca Pfeifer
