Roger Kelly's Medical Fund

My stepdad, Roger, had a massive heart attack on his 63rd birthday (April 7th). He was having trouble breathing so he and my Mom, Debbie, went to an urgent care clinic to get a breathing treatment. The doctor at the clinic saw that there was a problem with his heart and recommended he go to the emergency room. Roger and Debbie went to a little corner ER where lots of tests were run and that ER called an ambulance to take him to the main ER in Midland (where they live) because they thought he mIght be having a heart attack. They later found out he did indeed have a heart attack and his heart was now only functioning at 15%. He spent 4 days in the Midland ICU before they sent him to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. They were told it was for medicine that they could provide there that Midland could not provide. Upon arriving at Baylor, they soon found out that he was here for a heart transplant - something that had not been mentioned previously. That was 19 days ago. He has been in the hospital for 23 days total now and will be here for the foreseeable future. After a roller coaster ride of ups and downs - from being told there was nothing they could do and they were going to send him home to die to coding twice to now being considered potentially for either a heart transplant or an artificial heart (LVAD). He has had many rough days, but is feeling much better and continuing to improve. The transplant process is lengthy and he is currently still in that process. He has been undergoing extensive testing and a committee will ultimately determine if he can get on the transplant list. The doctor here believes that if he gets on the list, he could get a heart in 30 days or less based on his blood type, but there is no way to know for sure. As you can imagine being sent five hours from your home unexpectedly and then being there for such a long period of time, costs are accumulating fast. Medical bills, hotel costs for Debbie when Roger is in ICU (while in ICU no one can stay with you), parking, food, etc is racking up on top of neither of them being able to work and they need your help. While they don't yet know exactly what path Roger will be selected for, they have been informed of the costs for each including the time required after the procedures to live here in Dallas and medicine costs for the remainder of his life after the procedures. All of the costs mentioned above are what your donations will be used for. Even more importantly than money, Roger needs your prayers. It has been a very long road so far and he has a long, hard road in front of him whether they decide to do a heart transplant or an LVAD. We know God has a plan and we want whatever route will be best for Roger. He has lots of grandkids that want their Grandpa to see them grow up. Please also be in prayer for the family of the person's heart he will receive if he is approved for the heart transplant. I know that Roger and Debbie appreciate more than words could express the outpouring of love and support, the prayers that have been said, and the generosity of each and every one of you. We will continue to post updates here on his progress throughout this journey.
