Roger the Emu’s Fight for a Second Chance
Meet Roger — a gentle, curious emu who has captured our hearts here at Barker’s Feathered Friends Sanctuary. Roger came to us with a serious leg injury that left him struggling to stand, walk, or enjoy life the way an emu should. After veterinary exams and X-rays, the doctors discovered what appear to be metal fragments in his knee area, along with signs that his leg had been twisted, leaving him in severe pain.
Roger’s case is urgent and complicated. He has now been referred to Oklahoma State University, the only facility equipped to perform the specialized surgery he needs. Without this surgery, Roger’s chances of living a pain-free, happy life are slim.
Despite his struggles, Roger still shows his sweet personality — he perks up when people visit him, and he’s been so brave through vet visits and treatments. We believe Roger deserves every chance to heal, run, and thrive again.
Unfortunately, the cost of surgery, ongoing care, and rehabilitation is far beyond what our small sanctuary can cover alone. That’s why we’re asking for your help.
Every donation — big or small — will go directly toward:
Roger’s surgery at OSU
Medications and aftercare
Travel and follow-up vet appointments
Ongoing recovery needs
Roger has already touched so many lives. With your support, we can give him the future he deserves — one filled with love, freedom, and comfort.
Please donate today and share Roger’s story. Together, we can save his leg and his life.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us fight for Roger.
