Honoring the Life of Roger Edward McGee

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Roger Edward McGee on September 8, at the age of 82. We take comfort in knowing Roger is now in the arms of Jesus, rejoicing in eternal rest. He passed surrounded by his family at his home in Garner, North Carolina.

Roger’s life was built on compassion. He had a gift for listening and an even greater gift for showing up for people when they needed it most. Through crisis counseling, outreach to the homeless, and his ministry alongside his wife Alice, he poured himself into lifting others up. Together, they co-founded Church in the Woods in Raleigh, a place where thousands have found food, help, and encouragement. They also launched Good News Television, broadcasting the light of Christ into countless homes.

More than anything, Roger’s heart was for people. He believed every life mattered and that love should be lived out in action. His steady faith and servant’s heart left a lasting mark on everyone he met.

Isaiah 61:1–3
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all who mourn;
3 to grant to those who mourn in Zion—
to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning,
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;
that they may be called oaks of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.

As his family prepares to celebrate his life and lay him to rest, we humbly ask for your support to help cover funeral expenses. Any contribution—large or small—will go directly toward ensuring a farewell that reflects Roger’s lifelong spirit of kindness, generosity, and care. Your support is not just financial; it’s a way of honoring a man who gave so much of himself to others.

Roger leaves behind Alice, his wife of 63 years, their seven children, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. His legacy will continue through each of them and through the many lives he touched along the way.

Though we grieve his loss, we celebrate the life he lived and the impact he left behind. May his memory continue to inspire all of us to live with compassion, kindness, and divine purpose.

With love and gratitude,
The McGee Family
