ROETHLER-ECK PARADISE FIRE FUND

Donation protected
At some point in the military each of us has had that one  guy you could always count on - the "go-to" guy, one of the "good guys"... Mine was/is MR1 Marty Roethler.  He was the hardest working, pleasant sailor a C.O. could ask for.  Marty never shirked from any job no matter how difficult, late, or unpopular.

I would go to sea with Marty anytime.  He remains my definition of "shipmate".

Marty needs our help.  He and Ruby have lived in Paradise for over forty years.  They lost everything in the Paradise fire - house, clothes, tools, machine shop, construction equipment, refurbished cars for local parades and volunteer events -  everything but the clothes they took when he left for Santa Rosa last Friday to have a total knee replacement.

That's right, Marty was in surgery when the Camp Fire tore through Paradise taking everything he had worked for all his life.

As his former C.O., loyalty runs both up and down.  "Take care of your sailors" is a mantra that does not end with retirement if there is a need.  It's time for me to do what I can to help him and Ruby get back on their feet.

I am starting this gofundme account for Marty to help him when he can get around and begin cleaning up and rebuilding his homestead.

On Tuesday the 13th, I'll be in Santa Ros to deliver work clothes, boots, and coats for him to use when he can.  In the meantime and for however long it takes, I'm going to keep this GoFundMe account going to assist him however possible.

I've set an initial goal of $10,000 but don't really believe that will be enough except to make a small dent in the uncovered costs of rebuilding his life in Paradise ( ironic name for this town at this time, right?...).

I'm sending this to every shipmate of Marty's, every Sailor, Marine, or civilian whoever worked with him that I know of, and to all my Navy, Marine Corps and prior military friends, as well as other good friends to ask each of you two things: first, please send something to the fund to help me get this off the ground, and second: spread this GoFundMe information far and wide to all your military and civilian friends who can appreciate, if even for a moment, how devastating it would be to see your life's work - all that you loved and did, both in uniform and out - go up in flame.

Please help if you can.

Spread the word.  Thank you, Semper Fi, and God bless.
