Rodriguez Family Covid Emergency Assistance

Donation protected

My name is Dottie Jones and I created this GoFundMe to help my cousin, Lydia Rodriguez, and her family. Lawrence and Lydia Rodriquez, from LaMarque, Texas, were admitted to UTMB-Victory Lakes on July 12th with COVID. Lydia was immediately admitted to the ICU where she had to be placed on a ventilator. Lawrence was initially placed on the floor on oxygen and doing better but then took a turn for the worse and had to be transferred to the same ICU where Lydia is being cared for. Both parents are on high vent settings and critical. They have both been running high fevers and Lawrence’s kidneys are not functioning well. Both are heavily sedated, and their children are unable to see them or talk with them. The chances of survival are low and if they do survive, they will face many months in the hospital and rehabilitation.

With both parents in critical condition in the ICU at UTMB, family and friends have been caring for their four children. The oldest boys, Nathan and Ethan recently graduated high school and are attending College of the Mainland and work at Discount Tire. Adam also works at Discount Tire and attends College of the Mainland in their dual credit high school program. The boys are all hard workers and do well in school, but this is a financial burden they cannot carry. Synphonia is 11 and is being cared for by her aunt. She will be enrolled in the district in which her aunt is a teacher. Neither parent is stable, and outcomes are uncertain currently. Family and friends are trying to care for their four children at home but the financial burden of household bills and mounting medical bills has become overwhelming.

They are a loving family that have worked hard to build a life for their children. All of that is in jeopardy now since neither can work. Lydia has taught piano for many years in the community and has no income when not working. Lawrence has exhausted most of his paid leave at work. They have homeschooled all their children and have been active in local homeschool activities. They are also active in their church were Lydia leads the music ministry and Lawrence is a deacon.

Medical bills are mounting and there are four children that need help. Lawrence and Lydia will be hospitalized for a very long time and unable to work. Any donations would be greatly appreciated to help care for the children until their parents can return home and to ease the financial burden of growing medical and household bills such as their mortgage, utilities, and car. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated. Our desire is for them to not have the additional burden of huge medical debt or the loss of their home. We want the children to be able to remain in their family home. Please help if you can. Nelda Taylor, Lydia’s sister, will be managing the financial matters, including money from this GoFundMe, for the family at this time.
