Greetings and thank you for taking the time to consider “Stop Impaired Driving” (SID). SID is a nonprofit organization that focuses on assisting innocent victims of DUI crashes by awarding athletic scholarships. Our focus is to bring awareness about the dangers of drunk and drugged (impaired) driving to students while in school. On December 26, 1996, our founder’s son Rodrick Sinclair McClure and husband James Robert Addison were killed by a drunk driver. The tragedy of this day impacted more than one family; it affected our community. Drunk drivers account for 31% of fatalities (according to responsibility.org 2013 report). While the numbers are in decline, there are far too many young promising lives lost at the hands of these irresponsible acts. Rodrick Sinclair McClure was the starting point guard for Las Vegas, Nevada’s 1994 Cimmaron Memorial High School Varsity Basketball State Championship Team. His academics and athletic achievements led him to earn a scholarship and star as the point guard for the 1996 Eastern Washington University’s Basketball team. James Addison was on his way to take his son Rodrick to the airport so that he could return to his team after the holiday season. The decision by an underage drunk driver changed the course of well over thousands in the Las Vegas Community that night at one red light. As a Tribute to Rodrick and James and to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of Survival, SID will host the Rodrick “Hot Rod” McClure Basketball Classic. During May 5th-7th 2017, SID will host a youth basketball tournament at Doolittle Community Center in Las Vegas, NV focused on community service, and bring awareness about the dangers of drunk and drugged driving to the students in the schools. Along with SID's various fundraising efforts, we are asking you to join us and be a part of this special occasion by donating to make this a memorable event. Rodrick and James have left a lasting effect on every life they came across. We would like to keep their memory moving through the lives of the generations to come.
