Rodney’s Liver Transplant Fund

My goofy, hardworking, and selfless husband Rodney was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) a few years ago. To shorten what could be a VERY long explanation: PSC is a scarring and hardening of the bile ducts in the liver. It’s an autoimmune disease that often follows hand in hand with ulcerative colitis (which Rodney also has). With his liver unable to pass any bile/toxins, it is essentially killing itself. At the moment, there is no cure or treatment for this disease. The only thing to do is wait until Rodney’s doctors deem him “sick enough” to warrant a liver transplant.

We’re approaching this “sick enough” stage much faster than anticipated. Rodney’s doctors are in Boston, and with missed work for appointments and illness, fuel and lodging costs, he has voiced to me how concerned he is about not being able to pay our mortgage or other bills. He’s the “breadwinner” in our house, and being able to provide for his family is his only concern. When transplant time comes, he could be out of work anywhere from 3-6 months depending on if his body handles the transplant well. I (as a donor match) could potentially be out of work as well if I end up being the donor for him.

I hesitated to do this GoFundMe as Rodney and I both feel terrible asking for help (he doesn’t even know that I did this while laying in our hotel bed at 2:30am waiting for his next procedure at 8am), but was encouraged by a friend to try it. I do know that whatever help we may receive would be received with an enormously grateful heart and would lessen his (and my) financial concerns enormously.
