My name is Donna Guion and I am asking for help to cremate and assist Rodney Prater’s family with expenses. I met Rodney 43 years ago through my husband. He was described by his friends and family as kind, fun, and dedicated to those around him, including his dogs who were his children.

Rodney took care of his family. His brother, Tracy, was diagnosed with cancer about six years ago, and Rodney invited him to move in so Rodney could care for him. Tracy passed away, and a short time later, Tracy’s daughter came to live with Rodney. His niece was in high school and was not prepared for life without her father. Rodney taught her how to apply for employment, transported her wherever she needed to go, eventually taught her how to drive, and helped her grieve the loss of her father. This young woman graduated from high school, is employed, and is a wonderful young woman.

During this time, Rodney’s health declined. In the last year, he has been hospitalized nine times. His savings were gone, and he relied on his social security and his partner’s social security. He struggled with health and only had financial resources for the necessities. He eventually had to turn to food banks for food, which embarrassed him. Rodney passed away September 29, 2025, in his sleep. His family is left with no money for cremation, assistance with moving everything out of his apartment, and bills. The funeral home is requesting $4,000.00 for the cremation alone.

We are asking for help with cremation expenses and other expenses relating to his passing and family expenses. Any donation - no matter how small - will help ease this burden.
