What was supposed to be a trip to Atlanta, Georgia for a dance workshop, turned into a family’s worst nightmare. Rodney McLemore took a trip to Atlanta on Labor Day weekend to do what he loved the most, dance his heart out! He attended a workshop and while participating, his knee dislocated. He paused from dancing and then his knee popped back into place. He then returned back to the dance floor and continued with the workshop. Anyone that knows Rodney knows that he was resilient! One of his dance friends coined him, “Quiet Storm”. There was something very spiritual and explosive about his movements. He embodied the word passion and gave every step profound meaning. As Rodney continued in the workshop he encountered a second pop in his knee. This time the knee dislocated and did not pop back in. This resulted in him having to seek medical treatment at urgent care. His treatment included a brace for his knee and crutches. On Monday he traveled by airplane home to Columbus, Ohio where he was originally born and raised. Though provided with crutches and a brace, Rodney’s pain was agonizing! He would head to work on Tuesday morning. He always aimed to put his best foot forward. His general manager did provide him with a stool to sit on while working, to relieve the pressure off his knee due to standing. Wednesday Rodney did not have to work. His pain continued to be excruciating, so once again he sought medical treatment and was taken by his mother to urgent care.

Thinking things would eventually improve, Rodney went back to work on Thursday. It was on this day that his world would turn upside down... While speaking to his general manager, his speech began to slur. Appearing disoriented, his manager urged him to sit on the stool provided. From there he collapsed and began having a seizure. His manager was able to catch him. He was then taken to OSU East medical center. During the period when he experienced a seizure, he lost oxygen to the brain. He spent Thursday through Friday at OSU East and then was later transported to the James Cancer Hospital Solove Research Institute. On Saturday 9/7 several tests were performed to assess the damage. The doctors explained the effects on his quality of life should there be irreversible brain damage. Tests continued through Tuesday to assess the trauma and further damage to his body. On September 10th at 2:47PM and following a CT Scan, it was announced to the family that Rodney McLemore Jr. was no longer with us due to the severity of the brain damage.

He is survived by his mother, Jennifer McLemore, his father Rodney (Angela) McLemore Sr., his sisters Shayla Wilder and Kara Fraizer, his brother Dale Chapman, grandmother Irene White, his aunts LaQuita Allison, Detra Eaddy, Renee Reed, Rhonda McLemore and a host of other relatives and friends. We ask that you make a donation to his family in light of this tragic and unexpected series of events. We also ask for your prayers as his family mourns, begins the journey and process of healing. All donations will assist in covering funeral, medical and other related expenses. We thank you in advance for your heartfelt contributions.

Dance Rodney, dance... Dance for God!
