My father Rodney Keyes Sr was beloved by his family and friends. He always had kind words and tough love for anyone who needed to hear it . He was an athlete an incredible sprinter at Southern high school in south Philadelphia. He also ran in the Penn Relays . Basketball was also one of the many talents taking on all comers at local playgrounds and playing varsity for southern high school. He took his talent and love of basketball to the armed services in the United States Army where he continued to play basketball and discovered another talent that he would use for the rest of his life, cooking. This man cooked his way into the hearts of many rather it was a block party, weddings, funerals or just a little something on a Wednesday night for his family. He always put his heart into anything he did. My father was also a great singer and a lover of all music. He was especially fond of jazz and blues. He loved the classics like Fats Whaller, Miles Davis and Lena Horne. Sometimes you could hear him singing from his home all the way down the block .
It is with great sadness to announce the tragic passing of Rodney Keyes Sr. He was a caring father of Rodney Keyes Jr Benjamin Keyes and Aisha Watkins. Rodney was loved and respected in the community and his death has left a hole in our lives he will be missed dearly.
