After more than 20 years behind bars, Mr. Roddy Singletary is finally coming home. At just 21 years old, Mr. Singletary made a mistake that cost him decades of his life, but he has spent that time growing, learning, and preparing for a second chance. Through EPIC’s Parole Advocacy Project at NYU Law, we (Abhiraj, Alex, and Youssef) have spent the last several months helping Mr. Singletary prepare for his parole hearing, and now, his return home. It has been a privilege to get to know Mr. Singletary and support him in this process. His resilience, humility, and devout kindness inspires confidence that he will thrive upon reentry. All funds will go directly to Mr. Singletary to support his reentry needs.

Mr. Singletary has worked tirelessly to change his life—achieving sobriety and maintaining it since 2005, earning his GED, and immersing himself in countless educational and vocational programs that have shaped him into a thoughtful, responsible, and driven man. His dedication to self-improvement has led to his long-awaited parole, and he is eager to apply the skills and lessons he has learned, reconnect with his loved ones, and build a stable future.

He has a strong support system, including his brothers, Anthony, John, and Tyrone, and his many friends and other family members who have stood by him throughout his incarceration. He looks forward to spending time with his nieces who cannot wait to be with their Uncle Roddy again. Mr. Singletary is eager to find meaningful employment quickly, but the financial burden of reentry is immense. He will need assistance with housing essentials, transportation, clothing, and other basic necessities as he starts over with nothing.

This fundraiser will help Mr. Singletary’s transition smoothly into life outside prison by covering his immediate expenses, allowing him to focus on his long-term goals. All funds will go directly to Mr. Singletary’s immediate needs including food, personal hygiene, clothes/shoes, as well as a cell phone to help him get settled, find stable employment, and turn a new page. Every dollar donated will make a tangible difference in helping Roddy stand on his own two feet.
