Rod and Kathi Sweet's Flooded home

Rod and Kathi were told at 11:30 on Monday night, fire engines with lights and sirens were blaring through their neighborhood, they needed to evacuate their home as soon as possible. They were told the Dam above their home had broken. And they had "minutes to escape". They escaped safely in their motorhome, and by Tuesday morning they heard the dam had held. They could not believe it! The. water had gone over their sea wall but the water was not in the house. They went back to their house but the rain was still so bad, they decided to move their furniture to the second floor of the house. They had a group from their church come and help them move some of their stuff to the second floor. The bridge near their home was starting to have too much water on it that "small" cars were not able to pass by. They again, evacuated their home and leaving both their cars there. The dam broken and their house took on water. So far they believe both cars are totaled. Their bottom floor is destroyed. Water damage is insidious and needs to be handled appropriately. As mold is a huge concern.

Losing your cars and the inability to live in your home is bad. They are both thankful they are safe. But here is the terrible thing.... because they aren't in a "flood zone" flood insurance was not available/ they didn't have it. Being retired they have a small fixed income and don't know how they will recover from this.

My dad (Rod Sweet) sent me a text and said it will be "financially devastating to them".

So I am asking for your help.

Dr. Rod Sweet retired as a prominent chiropractic in Petaluma Ca last year, and relocated to where he grew up in Mi.

They are living off an extremely conservative budget since retirement. So any amount to help will be greatly appreciated. They need money for repairs but also to help during the tricky times of being displaced and needing to respect the pandemic.
