Please help send the Rockwall ISD Culinary ProStart team to Nationals!
Rockwall ISD’s ProStart Culinary Team consists of 5 students from the district’s two high schools. The team is selected annually in the Fall from within the 300+ culinary student population and hold team practices at Dr Gene Burton College and Career Academy.
In January they earned 1st place at Regionals in Houston, and advanced to State. At the Texas State Finals In San Antonio in March, this team earned first place which qualified them as THE ProStart Team to represent the grand state of Texas at the 2019 National ProStart Invitational May 8-10 in Washington D.C.
This is the 3rd time Rockwall will represent Texas at NPSI: 2017,2018,2019. Yep, you read that right- their wins are consecutive! The student team roster changes every year, so there’s your proof that Chef Hayes and staff have developed a strong competitive program!
This year’s team is creating a buzz and building a legacy for Rockwall ISD, our County, Region, and State:
The students who make up the awesome 2019 Rockwall team are Preslie Mann (Sr. RHHS), Rachel Bristow (Jr. RHS), Maddie Demien (Jr. RHS), Ramsey Andersen (Jr. RHS), and Layton Ray (Jr. RHHS).
What is ProStart?
The culinary competition highlights each team's creative abilities through the preparation of a three-course meal in 60 minutes, using only two butane burners, and without access to running water or electricity. Students are evaluated on taste, skill, teamwork, safety and sanitation, and must impress judges from leading industry corporations, colleges and universities with skills they've developed through ProStart.
NPSI (Nationals) is the finale of a nationwide series of state competitions hosted by partner state restaurant associations.

Rockwall ISD helps fund classroom and team costs, however, the current district budget simply does not account for the increased student count and recent ProStart team success. Where once only 100 students were enrolled, now there are 300+.
The students and team fundraise throughout the school year with catering events and bake sales (you may have enjoyed their yummy pumpkin roll). The current budget deficit, increase of student interest and success, and Nationals being held in the very expensive Washington DC., more than ever, the student fund is in need of some extra generous donors for airfare, hotel, transportation, meals, competition supplies, etc. Please help if you can, no amount is too small or too large! Every Cent Counts! You are GREATLY APPRECIATED!
