For Delia* and her three young children – only 5, 8, and 10 years old – the chill in the air is not just winter approaching. It’s not only the fear of pressing bills beginning to pile up, without the loving support of their hard-working father to meet them. It’s also knowing just enough about what he’s gone through since he was suddenly detained in mid-October to be afraid for him as well.

Delia recalls the phone call with her partner, after he was grabbed by federal agents at dusk in Fairfax County, VA, at the end of his long day of work. She could hear someone screaming at him in the background, threatening him, if he didn’t answer questions and sign documents. From what she could hear, she fears the abuse did not stop with just words.

Heartsick, now she is struggling to pay her family’s basic expenses – rent, groceries, cellphone, car insurance, the warm winter clothes her three growing children need. And also to raise the large sum of money it will cost to provide the children’s father with the legal support he so urgently needs. He was the family’s sole breadwinner. For now, he is being held out of state, hours from their Montgomery County home, in a facility notorious for its dehumanizing conditions.

Can you help this Montgomery County family hold strong in the months ahead, to cope with this sudden trauma for all of them?
