Growing up, I always dreamed of a place where people of all ages could gather, sing, and socialize without the pressures of alcohol or drugs. As a kid and young adult, I was frustrated that karaoke was only available in bars, places I couldn’t go. That’s why I’m launching Rockstar Kitty Karaoke Lounge—a family-oriented venue where everyone can feel safe, express themselves, and connect with others.
The name Rockstar Kitty was inspired by my muse, my cat Gizmo. I rescued him from under a dumpster when he was just three weeks old, bottle-fed and raised him. But in the end, Gizmo saved me—he gave me purpose when I thought all hope was lost. The full name, Rockstar Kitty Karaoke Lounge, forms the acronym R.K.K.L. It’s playful and memorable, and I hope it brings a smile, just like Steve Urkel’s famous “Did I doooo that?” Ultimately, I want the place to be known as RKKL, reflecting the light, airy, and joyful intention behind it.
My journey hasn’t been easy. I’ve overcome trauma, addiction, and rejection from people who should have supported me. For years, I lived for others, only to be hurt for being myself and asking for help. I rebuilt my life from nothing, and now, in a town where I finally feel safe and supported, I want to pay it forward. The community here has shown me kindness and respect, and I want to create a space that reflects those values—a place where diversity is celebrated and everyone belongs.
