Rollergirls of Central KY - SOS

The Rollergirls of Central Kentucky are more than just a sports team, more than just a show, and more than just a bunch of girls in fishnets and roller skates. ROCK is a non-profit business that cares about the community and donates time and money to several charities each year. ROCK is about athleticism, performance, strength, and empowerment. We are a group of women dedicated to bettering ourselves, and each other, and the world around us.

The 2014 season is quickly approaching, and we find ourselves in a scary position of not yet knowing where all the money will come from to cover the expenses of our practice space lease, venue at the Lexington Convention Center for 5 bouts, and other monthly fees. This is an earnest plea for donations to our league so that we may continue practicing to bring you awesome derby action right here in Lexington this year.

Just to show you how important derby is to our skaters, here are some quotes from ROCK players about their experiences, their encouragement, and the silly things that happen in our dreams when we hang out with each other too much.

Junk Drawer (2X4) - "I used to think other skaters could do things I couldn't because they were somehow "better" than I was. More flexible, athletic, faster, genetically blessed. But [Bones] made me attempt everything - even the skills that I KNEW I could never do. And when I fell on my ass, she made me try them again. And again. And I fell and fell and failed and failed. And then I didn't fall. It turned out I could do those skills. And more. And now I don't know what else I can do. And it turns out, those other girls were never inherently better than me (though maybe more natural athletes, true)... They were just the girls who were willing to fall as many times as it took to be amazing. Now I want to be *that* girl. Splayed on the floor, ass bruises and all...

Don't be afraid of falling. Be afraid of never finding out how amazing you are....

Bones' gift to me was reminding me that failing spectacularly is part of the learning process. If you aren't willing to fail spectacularly, how can you expect to succeed that way?"

Kitty O'Doom (10): "February will mark seven years of derby for me. It's mind blowing. It's been the greatest and hardest experience of my life. I have already come way further than I ever thought was possible. I know I've got miles and miles yet to go. I was, quite possibly, the greenest fresh meat to ever walk through ROCKs doors and the only reason I made it was because my teammates believed in me. I believe in you."

Ann Bones (99): "So last night I had this crazy dream that Rainbow, Ginger and Slam all got arrested (and Slam had short hair and a nose ring, it looked good) and I was with them when they got arrested but I didn't get arrested and so I had to try to get them out of jail and I'm fairly sure lots of other crazy things happened (Ginger learned how to cook a cheeseburger on the hood of a car as part of her inmate skills and I tried one and it was delicious)."

As you can see, derby is our passion, our joy, and our life, and we will do anything we can to make sure we can share it with you this season. Please consider one of the donation options here in our GoFundMe campaign, or donate an amount within your budget. Our goal is $5000 in 3 weeks. Let's make it happen!
