Hi, my name is Kat, and I'm Mum to a 6yo Pembrokshire Corgi called Rocket.
In February 2022, Rocket hurt his back trying to jump out the car. Despite lots of rest and relaxation, on 31st March he was checked by the Vet and found to have a spinal injury that was causing him to struggle with his back legs.
Despite further rest and a lot of medication, on 15th April, Rocket woke up unable to use his back legs.
He was rushed into an emergency vet who concluded his best chance was a referral to a specialist hospital, and on 16th April he was diagnosed with IVDD following an MRI scan, and it was confirmed he needed emergency surgery on two herniated discs.
The surgery went well, despite some complications, and as of 19th April he is showing deep pain response, which means he has a good chance of walking again.
However, to help Rocket walk, he is going to need physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, numerous vets trips and specialist equipment. Whilst he is insured, the cost of the surgery will wipe out his insurance for the year, and I still have approximately £1500 to pay to clear the vets bill.
Hydrotherapy costs £45 a session.
Physiotherapy is an unknown.
Equipment will include a sling for walking, puppy pads, diapers, blankets and towels, vet beds, toys and other things to keep him occupied. We already have a stroller, which cost £150 and is currently on credit.
I will be making as many changes to my lifestyle as possible, but I also do not want my boy to not have the best care for the want of money. A few friends have asked me to set up a GFM and this will help drastically to reduce the financial burden on us.
Our goal is to get Rocket walking again. I intend to be transparent with all bills and receipts, as I'm not someone used to asking for help.
Anything you can spare in these difficult times will help. Thank you so much to you all.
