Rock Creek Church Juarez Serve Trip

"...and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8
Our church is re-launching its Family Serve Trips to Juarez, Mexico.
These Family Serve trips used to be a foundational characteristic of Rock Creek Church's DNA. From roughly, 2008-2015, Juárez, by no choice of their own, rose as the epicenter of the cartel drug war that raged throughout México. That war brought extreme violence which essentially brought all efforts to serve in the city to a halt. Though there is always some form of risk when stepping out for Christ in serving, our church believes now is the time to re-introduce these trips, and our family is going!
Juárez, México, a city of over 1.3 million people, borders the United States by way of El Paso, Texas. The collision of these two border cities portrays one of the greatest pictures of disparity. On one side of the fence stand the tall buildings and affluence of the United States, while on the other side lay dirt streets riddled with shacks and families struggling to survive. Although only separated by a fence and small river, the contrast between these neighboring cities is overwhelming.
A typical home in Juarez has dirt floors, blankets for doors, and cardboard and pallets construct the roof and walls. Due to the harsh desert climate, these makeshift houses are not enough to protect families from the extreme temperatures. Although México is typically thought of as a hot desert climate, the temperatures in Juárez range a span of over 100 degrees throughout the year. Summers soar into triple digits, while winter nights turn deadly and drop below freezing. Many families live without running water and rely solely on the trucks that fill barrels outside of their homes. Electricity is as unreliable as the power lines that their loose wires are strewn across.
Once again, Rock Creek Church is answering the call to serve, in the name of Jesus Christ, in the local churches and orphanages of Juarez. You can be a part of the rebirth of love and care to the city that we love so much, with the re-launch of our Family Serve Trips!
We will be partnering with our sister church in Juarez in serving those throughout this community. Our trip is November 19-23, so we will be spending a very special Thanksgiving holiday with our friends and family in Mexico. We plan to attend church, help serve a meal to the surrounding area, help with upkeep at the church, and deliver an estimated 400 Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes. Our dear friend and pastor of the church, Jose Luis, along with his wonderful staff and family, will then distribute those boxes throughout the community around Christmas!
In addition, we will be partnering with Bethel Orphanage in Juarez. This beautiful place of hope was started over forty years ago and continues to take in kids and change lives. Currently, they have 128 children and we will be serving at this home on two different occasions.
As we pray for God's blessing and protection in preparation for this trip, YOU are invited to join our team. First, and most importantly, please commit to praying for our family. Pray for safety, provisions, heart preparation, health, and that God would be honored through our family. Second, we ask you to consider becoming a financial member of our team.
Each participant of this trip is asked to raise $400 to cover all associated costs. This will be the first time our entire family travels together to serve (Brian, Sandy, Naomi 16yrs, Luke 10 yrs, Seth 10yrs and Max 7 yrs). That's $2,400 for our crew to go serve - all due by November 4. We are excited and nervous. Hopeful and prayerful. We know God will protect and provide, and we would love for you to cover us in your prayers.
Our team will be commissioned as part of the service at Rock Creek Church on November 11 at 10 am. If you are in the area, we would love to have you join us for this exciting launch.
Thank you for your support and encouragement in this unique and God-ordained service opportunity. May God richly bless you and your family, and may God continue to push each of us to take the next step in faith.
Humbly and with deep love for Jesus-
