Rock Guide Course Fund

Hey Friends!

Let me cut to the chase. This is a moment of vulnerability for me, but with the unwavering support and encouragement from friends, I'm taking a leap of faith.

My name is Gerry, and I'm not just a rock climber; I'm passionate about it. For over a decade, I've immersed myself in the art and discipline of trad multi-pitch climbing. Along this journey, I've received an outpouring of positive feedback from fellow climbers, which has fueled a deep-seated desire within me to guide others through this life-changing sport.

However, there's a significant hurdle in my path: the cost of the AMGA Rock Guide course. I've applied for the scholarship every year since the program started, but unfortunately struck out three times. This year through AMGA Affinity Program, Black Diamond pulled out from providing the scholarship for BIPOC RGC.

So, here I am reaching out, putting aside any pride I have left, and asking for your help. My dream isn't just about personal achievement; it's about creating a welcoming and inclusive space for individuals who might otherwise feel excluded from the climbing community.

With your support, I aim to raise $4500 to cover the tuition fees. Any surplus will go towards essentials like food, gas, and the income I'll forego during the course.

The upcoming March 17-24 session in Red Rock is my target, and if all goes well, hopefully I can get hired as an official guide for the climbing season.

Your contribution, no matter the amount, isn't just a donation; it's an investment in fostering a more diverse and supportive climbing environment. Help me make a difference.

Thank you for considering my cause. Your support means more to me than words can express.

Salamat!

Who is Gerry?
Gerry is one of the kindest and most talented climbers I’ve met. Gerry and I met while he was volunteering for the first All In Ice Fest. My first meeting with Gerry has proven to be how they show up over the years we’ve been friends: they are always willing to show up, help out, and teach others everything they know about climbing (which is a lot!).

What’s this gofundme for?
Gerry wants to pursue formal guide certification so that they can support themselves living on the road. A.M.G.A. (American Mountain Guide Association) certification is expensive, with Rock Guide courses running at $3675-4525 this year. Gerry has tried three times to get into affinity courses but hasn’t been successful so far. Let’s help Gerry get into a course as a community!

Why would Gerry be a great guide?
Gerry builds community by fostering a welcoming environment with his warm spirit, kind friendship, and extensive climbing experience. I believe that Gerry will make an outstanding guide based on my experiences with them as a personal climbing friend & partner, and also as a festival co-organizer for All In Ice Fest. They bring a special blend of intersectional identities and experiences that will allow them to help a lot of people feel safe, witnessed, and have the space to grow as climbers in an inclusive environment.
