Rob Stengel's Cancer Fight

Donation protected
In early July 2019, our friend Rob Stengel went to the doctor to address some abdominal discomfort he’d been experiencing. A few weeks of extensive testing later, we received the devastating news that Rob had Peritoneal Mesothelioma, an extremely rare type of cancer that impacts the lining of the abdomen (the peritoneum).

This is an aggressive type of cancer that is more often than not caused by asbestos exposure and it is highly uncommon in people as young as Rob, who will be turning just 31 later this fall. He's received a positive treatment prognosis from his doctors, however it requires immediate and intensive treatment and they've embarked on an aggressive treatment schedule. He has started chemotherapy treatments with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and will undergo a 12-hour surgery some time in September or October. (After that time we'll update this site with more information about the course of treatment.)

We have each known Rob for 12 years and met during our freshmen year at NYU. He is an incredibly kind and thoughtful person who has shown up and supported each of us time and time again throughout our friendship. We feel lucky that Rob is such a mentally strong person who is handling his diagnosis with astounding grace and level-headedness. That being said, we need your support to ensure he can focus all of his attention on fighting this terrible disease!

Our ask is urgent, as Rob is currently unable to work while he undergoes treatments, and likely will not be able to for the immediate future. Your support will help pay for Rob's medical and prescription bills as well as his living expenses.

Right now, the best way to support him is by donating whatever amount you can to help cover his necessities over the next several months. But, if you want to personally provide any additional direct assistance, please feel free to reach out to any of us.

We sincerely appreciate any and all donations and encourage you to spread the word through social media.

THANK YOU,

Gwen, Allie, and Nami
