Hi, my name is Katrina. On June 16th, 2023, my younger brother, Robert a.k.a. Rob, had to say goodbye to his left leg. My brother is a great guy and one that never ask for help, so I'm here seeking help for him from all of you. He is going to have a lot of medical expenses that will need to be covered, equipment for his home which will allow him to get around, funds for a prosthetic, and money to cover bills while he is out of work recovering from surgery and learning to walk again.
Okay, so now with the back story. Rob was once a wrestler. Bet not all of you knew that. He also spent time coaching kids and teenagers how to wrestle, providing them with a fun and healthy outlet. They would put on shows and even charity matches to help those in need. Unfortunately while having a good time, Rob ended up injuring his left knee. This knee never did fully recover, causing him to walk with a bit of a limp on that side. Over the years he continued working as a cook at the local hospital, the rehabilitation facility, and later a country club. Sadly, my brother had to end his career as a cook due to growing pains in his left foot caused by the wear to it from his limp. Not to aid in the matter, he has diabetes which means he had poor circulation in his feet. This led to several surgeries over the past few years to remove tissue and even bone from his foot and ankle. He has always pressed on and didn't let the pain hold him back from working and enjoying life. He found a new job working for a company selling and renting scooters to those with mobility issues, much like himself. You see, the number of surgeries he had been through left him wearing a custom made special shoe and leg brace. Both cumbersome and unpleasant.
Moving on to the loss of his leg. On Wednesday, June 14th, 2023 I received a call from our mom informing me that she was taking my brother to the hospital, he was having difficulty breathing and experiencing chest pains. After a night in the hospital and lots of tests, the doctors resolved that there was a bad infection in his foot, this time causing his blood sugar to skyrocket and a high white blood cell count. Enough stress on his body to cause the chest pains previously mentioned. It was determined that the only way for him to get better would be to remove the problem, his foot. Surgery was scheduled for the next day and a talented vascular surgeon performed the job of removing Rob's left foot along with most of his calf. As I write this, my brother is in the hospital on day 2 of his road to recovery. In the upcoming days he will be moved to a rehab facility where he will continue to heal and learn to care for his new self. This road won't be easy but if anyone can do it, it's my brother. He has stayed focused on moving forward and getting on with his life with his wife Angela (Angie) by his side.
Monies raised are being gifted to the couple to assist with immense costs they will incur over these next several months. Any amount contributed will be greatly appreciated and well received.
Thank you,
Katrina (a sister wanting to help her brother)
