Rob’s road to recovery from a BMX accident
On Saturday May 1 while doing one of the
things he loves most, riding BMX, Rob Blacharski
experienced a bad crash on his bike.
Thankfully he was wearing a helmet but he
sustained a traumatic brain injury and was
airlifted to a trauma center where he spent 21 days in the ICU, 8 of them in a medically
induced coma. He was moved to a TBI
recovery facility where he will remain until he is better. Rob has been steadily improving but his recovery is going to be a very long haul.
Rob is an out of work laborer and is currently covered under Medicaid, as he had no insurance at the time
of his accident. We have put together this
GFM to help cover medical costs and
incidentals that won’t be covered by
insurance. Rob is well known and well loved,
and any little bit will help as he continues to
improve toward a meaningful recovery. Thank you so much!
EDIT: the platform has asked me to edit this story to include some additional information- my name is Alicia Jones, I’m from Long Island, and I’m Rob’s girlfriend. I set up this GFM to help defer costs associated with his recovery that will not be covered by insurance, such as his life flight bill to the ICU and additional days in the TBI rehab when it comes to that point. Since Rob is currently unable to communicate due to a tracheotomy and is not conscious enough to use a computer or bank account, I will be the person to withdraw the funds and ensure that every dollar raised goes directly to his care. I will be setting up a new bank account that has his name on it also and withdrawing all the funds raised into that account, and when the time comes that Rob is able to use his bank account I will remove my name from the new account and he will be the only one able to access it. I’m not able to add him as a beneficiary to the GFM account at this time because unfortunately during the course of his accident, his license was misplaced by the various entities that came to his rescue (EMS, the police, the FD) and I have yet to track it down. Since I have no access to his government issued ID at this time I won’t be able to add him as a beneficiary, but if I am able to get his ID back then I certainly will. I want this to be as transparent as possible and if anyone has any questions I can be reached at [email redacted]/ [phone redacted].
Thank you all so much for your continued support in helping our dude get better!
