Rob's Cancer Fight

Rob has been fighting gallbladder cancer for the last year.  After surgery, chemo and radiation, we thought we may have beaten it....but it came back already.   The local doctors freely admit they can't stop it with the treatments they have available.  This cancer is very aggressive and highly resistant to chemo....so the expectation is only for a small delay, not a cure.  Unfortunately, the laws in Nebraska are not conducive to experimental medicine.

Our only option seems to be going out of state to a medical facility in Arizona where the laws enable experimental research and cooperative work with leading edge researchers around the world.  For example, the local team has not genetically tested the cancer to match it to the most effective chemo....they just pick the standard chemo of choice that is used for all vaguely similar patients.  The facility in Arizona will map the genetic markers of this specific cancer using a laboratory in Greece where they will test the cells against all available forms of chemo to find those with the best response.  There are no guarantees in experimental medicine but certainly more hope than the known path to failure that we're currently on.

The big challenges will be the time away from work (likely 12-14 weeks) and medical expenses since the insurance will not cover most of it.  Rob and I are searching for options but we WILL FIND A WAY!

We hope to start treatment in early January and will be there through April 2017.

Any funds we are able to raise will go to medical expenses and housing while we're in Arizona.
