For the third consecutive year the Robohawks from Orchard Hills Middle School in Irvine, California has qualified to participate in the VEX ROBOTICS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in Louisville, Kentucky from April 23-27!

The Orchard Hills VEX Robotics Teams began 5 years ago with a small group of students and a steep learning curve! The program has continued to grow and flourish. Our first invitation to the VEX Robotics world championship was in 2017 with one robot qualifying. That year the team  was named World's Finalists and took home the judges award. In 2018 two teams qualified for the World Championship and experienced the amazing opportunity to communicate and collaborate with peers from around the world! This year in 2019 the Robohawks have had their most successful season yet and 3 teams are headed to the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!

Each team is unique and so special to our program and school!

8838A is our AMAZING #GIRLPOWERED team! For the FIRST TIME in school and district history an ALL GIRLS robotics team has qualified for the World Championship! This team is made up of 6 incredible and dynamic girls with a passion for robotics. They had very limited experience before this season and have impressed the judges and competitors all season long. This season alone they have taken home 10 trophies and won the highest award in VEX, the Excellence Award, at the CA state championship in Bakersfield. They ROCK the hot pink and can not wait to bring their robot “Discovery” to discover all the World Championship has to offer! They are most excited for the #girlpowered event, meeting new friends from around the world, and of course… kentucky kingdom!

8838B is headed to the World Championship for the THIRD YEAR in a row! This team has a level of dedication that is hard to replicate. The brain power on this team has propelled them into a successful season of innovation! This team has excelled due to their willingness to think outside of the box. They started the season with a double catapult design and currently have a flywheel design that won them TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS and the DESIGN AWARD at the CA State Championship! This team has given back so much to the robotics community by helping with elementary VEX IQ teams and volunteering as referees, judges, and setup for many tournaments. This team can’t wait to take their robot “CENTURY” back to the world championship in Kentucky!

8838D is a fun, silly, and insanely talented team! They are identified by their NEON troll hair and absolutely rock the fun side of robotics. They have documented through 3 engineering notebooks, have done a full 3D CAD design of their robot, and happen to be on their 3rd robot design and build of the season! This team has 6 talented young men with a passion for engineering and robotics. They have an amazing level of dedication and you can find them in the robotics room as early as 6:45am and will stay for as long as possible! At the CA State Championship they took home the highest award, the Excellence Award! Their team “AMIRITE” is so excited to compete among some of the best robots in the world!

By supporting the Orchard Hills Middle School Robohawks, you will be helping a group of ambitious and dedicated students to pursue their passion for engineering, science, math, and robotics. It is the Robohawks dream to compete against the 1200 other teams from around the world at this years ROBOTICS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!
