Robin's Gastric Sleeve Surgery

My name is Robin Hauret and I am 27 years old. I have been married to my loving husband, Jeremy, for almost 4 years and we are ready to start our own family. We have been trying for a baby for about 2 years. One of my biggest difficulties with getting pregnant is that I have PCOS, or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. For those of you who don't know, PCOS is when small cysts grow on the ovaries, causing hormonal and metabolic imbalances in the body. One of the most common symptoms is weight gain, and once the weight is gained, it is extremely difficult to lose because my body does not metabolize food efficiently. Ever since I was a teenager, I have had irregular menstrual cycles, but when I was about 20 years old, I was gaining more and more weight. That was when I went to a doctor and was told that I have PCOS. In order to regulate my menstrual cycles, I was put on a birth control pill to help balance out my hormones. However, once on the pill, I gained even more weight. After meeting and marrying Jeremy, I tried multiple ways to lose the 50 lbs that I had gained. I tried some of the fad diets, we went to the gym, we did workout videos in our home, we tried juicing, counting calories, and we cooked from home. No matter what I did and how encouraging and helpful Jeremy was, I would lose about 10-15 lbs and stop. Then, because of my PCOS and not being able to metabolize properly, I would gain it all back and even more. I am now the heaviest I have ever been, and that weight has now caused my menstrual cycles to completely stop. Unless I can lose weight, I won’t be able to get pregnant.

Through a lot of prayer and research, Jeremy and I decided that a Gastric Sleeve Surgery would be the best thing to do to get my health back where it needs to be. The Gastric Sleeve surgery is where they remove about 80% of my stomach. That particular part of the stomach is where the hunger sensors are, so I will no longer feel physical hunger. This is important, because one of my problems is that even if I eat a good meal, about an hour later, my hunger sensors go off again and I feel that hunger ache. This surgery will not only take away that hunger, but it will also substantially reduce the amount of food I can eat. Once I start losing weight, I’ll be able to become more and more active because my knees and lower back won’t hurt as much, which will help me to lose even more weight. I’ll be able to go dancing again, swim, ride my bike, and jog with my dogs, just to name a few. I am determined to lose the weight and keep it off, for myself and for my future family.

I am receiving the surgery in 2 weeks, so it would be great to receive the funds within the next month or two. Sooner would be better than later, but I’ll take what help I can get. These funds will greatly help me and my husband because, even though my insurance will cover some of the surgery, the $6500 is coming out of pocket, and that is a lot of money for us. Especially since my husband is preparing to apply to school in the next year, and we’re saving as much as we can for that.

This is a pretty urgent situation, because if I don’t get this taken care of soon, not only will I not be able to get pregnant, but my doctor says that if I don’t lose the weight soon, I will become diabetic. My husband’s father died from diabetes, and I do not want to go through what he went through before he died. Please help me. Any amount helps and my husband and I greatly appreciate all contributions.
