While we are all facing our own concerns during COVID-19, faced with fears and feelings of uncertainty, one family just got some very upsetting news. During this time of uncertainty for many, Chuck Robinett was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma... cancer!
Kristy"s post on Facebook (April 3, 2020) describes Chuck's diagnosis, "Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells. The plasma cells are a type of white blood cell in the bone marrow and where a group of plasma cells becomes cancerous and multiplies. The disease can damage the bones, immune system, kidneys, and red blood cell count, which is how his sternum broke (the cancer attacked the soft tissue around the sternum). The good news, however, is that the doctor believes he’s at Stage 1. We won’t know for sure until he gets a PET Scan. A week from Monday he will have a course of treatment, which typically begins with chemotherapy in a pill form. Possibly target therapy, more than likely immune restorative therapy, and after the course of treatment we will discuss bone marrow/stem cell transplant. The oncologist was compassionate and felt positive that Chuck would eventually get into remission. According to the doctor, 10 years ago this would be a 5 year death sentence – even stage 1. As of 2020 treatments have become much more positive. There is no cure, but this is treatable."
One medication that Chuck needs, Revlimid, costs $24,000 for a month's worth of treatment. He will need this medication for 4 months! This is only a portion of what he will need for treatment and the expense will add up quickly.
Kristy (and Chuck) have never wanted to ask for help, but honestly, they are the kind of people that need it the most. They are the givers, the kind souls, the ones that want to help everyone and don't want anything in return. It's our time to help the Robinetts.
Anything that you are able to give, even if it is just prayers, are very appreciated.
As Kristy always says, "I believe in you". We believe in you Chuck. You've got this and we are here for you!
