Diagnosed Breast Cancer = Terrified
On 9/20/16, I received the terrifying phone call that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer – Stage 3. I thought I had dodged the big “C” and up until this point I saw Cancer as a disease that has already taken so many people that I loved. With that it is still not REAL until it happens to you. I loss an aunt and three other family members have been diagnosed and are survivors.
I started my chemotherapy in October of 2016. My first treatment landed me in the hospital for 10 days. I was neutropenic, no immune system and no control of my bodily functions. Here comes 15 rounds of a different chemo medicine that didn’t land me in the hospital. Every Tuesday – for 15 weeks I went to the infusion center, while in many ways the treatment was poison it was the only poison that could keep me alive.
Through multiple ER visits what kept me focused was my mother, my niece and my work. Between ER visits and chemo treatment, I still tried to work as much as I could. What I realized was that being around people pushed me to live and fight for my life. Unfortunately, after 6 months of trying to balance my work and treatment I was terminated from job and exhausted my short-term and long term disability benefits. At this point, I no longer have insurance and I am scheduled to have surgery while waiting for Medicaid approval.
I am establishing this Gofundme page to request support for my surgery expenses and living expenses. I am not finishing fighting as I plan to beat cancer and return to work. Until that I am asking for your help. No amount is too small....if you can't afford to donate...please share my story and keep me in your prayers.
