On Monday, April 3rd, our dear friend and colleague Roberto Marquez Navarro suffered a stroke and fell while working on a ladder, breaking his neck in two places. He stopped breathing. Paramedics resuscitated and rushed him to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, but Roberto never regained consciousness. He was only 55 years old.
Roberto provided cleaning and handyman services to my company for 20 years. He loved his work and it showed. Our offices were spotless. Roberto was easy to talk to and a joy to work with. Always friendly and kind, he made it a point to say hello to everyone by name. When my mother passed away, he silently placed a sympathy card on my desk and put his hand on his heart. We all loved him.
Roberto had so many talents. He was a painter and a carpenter and had two green thumbs. He took it upon himself to care for the few plants we had in the office, which quickly multiplied to more than twenty, grown from cuttings he started. He liked to surprise us by building plant stands or secretly planting tomato plants outside.
Roberto was incredibly selfless and took care of his family above all else. And now his family needs our help to pay for his medical and funeral expenses. Any amount is appreciated and will provide a fitting memorial to this kind and remarkable man.
