Below we share some heartfelt words from family and Hermanos:
"A loving son, an adoring brother, phenomenal uncle and a humble man willing to help anyone in need. Roberto was always smiling, looking at the positive side of every situation, but he kept it real! Continuously joking all the time, enjoying family time watching movies. He became a father figure to all his nephews/nieces and instilling in them that education is key. Roberto always had good advice...three of those I will remember always which are: 1) fortune 500 favors the prepared (meaning be ready for the unexpected), 2) you control your actions and keep smiling, 3) be happy/ safe. There aren't sufficient words to express the love we have for Roberto. God blessed the entire family by giving us an Amazing Son/Brother/Uncle. He will live eternally in our Hearts. Quoting Rob "Stay strong, be positive and Happy". - Roberto's sisters: Jasmine, Jacqueline, and Alema
"I hadn't been in touch with Rob for a number of years we kind of went our different ways, family and careers will do that to you. However, we were friends before he pledged LUL and became our Brother. I knew him for a number of years, he was in the same circle of friends as me and my wife and we have nothing but fond memories of him. He always had a smile on his face, ear to ear happy and full of life, always a kind welcoming word when he greeted you, he loved a good party and you couldn't get him off the dance floor. We spent many a times together partying at Baruch's student life and beyond, he was a staple within our peers. The only times he would miss an event was when he had family matters to attend to, I met two of his sisters and you could see how much he loved them and how much they loved him. I am certain that they are grieving deeply. It is extremely sad and breaks my heart that he was taken away from us so early." - Hermano Andres Jimenez, Omicron Chapter - Spring 1997
"The bonds of Brotherhood and friendship between Roberto and I were forged while he was pledging our fraternity Lambda Upsilon Lambda. Upon meeting him he informed me that he came from the same neighborhood as I did, Bushwick Brooklyn. He also told me he lived two blocks away from me. This must have been serendipitous, as we had grown up in the same neighborhood at the same time, lived two blocks from each other and yet had never met, until he pledged.
From this one meeting we never lost contact and, we formed a true friendship that lasted 19 years. Over the years we got to know each other’s families. It so happened our mothers already knew each other. We even went on vacation to Dominican Republic. Throughout the years we laughed and cried together, joked and argued and always made up within minutes. We became best buds.
Roberto was more than a friend he was a confidant, an advisor, a giver of knowledge and a true brother. He was always, always kind. Even if he was upset, he would still look for the positive side of things. Rob was the definition of a gentleman. Roberto generosity new no bounds. He was generous with all he had; be it time, money, material possessions, and food. Rob was the man who would give someone the shirt of his back. He would walk a mile or more, even on an injured leg, to meet up, just for the sake of brotherhood, only to spend time with and to talk to me.
When I would go visit him, he always made sure I had a full belly and went away with some knowledge. Roberto was an avid researcher and lover of music. He was always looking something up and sharing health information and recommending Music and movies for me to not only entertain myself with but to learn from. Rob and I also on several occasions worked out and spared sharing martial arts tips and techniques.
Roberto’s actions and smile would brighten every room and warmed the heart. He would always greet me the same way, “Was up pa?”, give me the fraternal grip and say “Para Siempre”. When we would part, he always said “aight pa” give me the grip and say “Para Siempre, Love you bro”. and I would reply “Para Siempre, love you too bro”.
My words fail me, in describing the type of man he was and how deeply he will be missed. I find comfort in knowing the golden light of his heart and soul touched many.
To you Roberto- Para Siempre! Love you my Brother." - Hermano Victor Escorbores, Upsilon Chapter - Fall 1999
