ROBERT/BATMAN'S MEDICAL

My name is Vance Valencia. It is with the utmost urgency that I am making this plea for my dear and longtime friend Roberto Marquez. Many years ago, while still in high school, Roberto was involved in a terrible auto accident. Though Roberto sustained multiple serious spinal cord injuries, he survived and was able to live a relatively normal life despite destroying his C2-C7 vertebrae. In addition, undiscovered shavings of glass were imbedded in his deep flesh.

Roberto is now in his 50’s and his early life threatening injuries have finally returned to haunt him requiring spinal surgery. Doctors told him that he had an 80/20 chance of survival or chance of being a paraplegic. But, my friend is a survivor and overcame the challenge. As of last Tuesday’s medical procedure at the University of New Mexico Hospital, Robert now sports a “rebuilt” neck.

Sadly, Roberto, having lost his job and with little resources, he is faced with a load of hurdles to overcome. My friend is seeking emergency funding to help pay for medical bills, electric, water and rent. It is impossible to predict how a life can turn around. Certainly his current situation was not the result of a clever master plan. That he has come to me for help is heart rending, especially since his situation is dire and he needs help now.

I hope that anyone reading this request will find a way to assist a friend in need. God forbid anyone should have to endure such a trial in their life. But, if any us were to find ourselves in such predicament I hope we would be strong enough to ask for help and humble enough to receive it. With my hat in my hand, please dig deep, find a place of charity in your heart and help my friend.
