Roberta O’Brien

This post is about sweet Aunt Birdie (Ash’s grandma). If you know her, you know she is so very sweet, kind, and warm.

Long-time Nikiski resident Roberta O’Brien was diagnosed with Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), on July 21st, 2023, after an unrelated work-place injury led doctors to uncover this illness silently attacking her body. She will be undergoing a lobectomy, removing the upper left lobe of her lung (as well as a lymph node removal) on October 13th in Anchorage.

Roberta will be out of work for a minimum of 8 weeks to heal and recover, both in Anchorage and back home in Nikiski. During this time, she will have no income to support her family and regular household bills, let alone cover the mounting medical bills she has already been accruing.

As many of you know, this family has gone through a tremendous amount of illness, stress, and trauma over the last few years; they will appreciate any and all assistance that friends, family, and our community are able to give.
