**This fundraiser is being organized with the support of Roberta Carmons' neighbors on Virginia Ave.**
On May 25th, 2020 my neighbor Roberta Carmons (lovingly known to all in the Center City neighborhood as Grandma) woke in the early hours of the morning as a fire raged in her bedroom. She and her grandson managed to safely escape the house just as the fire department arrived. Two back rooms of the house were badly damaged, along with the roof, and many belongings were consumed by the fire.
Victims of fires face tremendous emotional stress and financial costs. Because Grandma does not have home insurance, she and her family are looking to the community for support in recovering from this tragedy. Getting power and water to the property is an immediate need. Once these are in place, the process of rebuilding (fixing the roof, rewiring all electrical, repairing walls, etc.) can begin.
Any donation you can make will go directly to Grandma to help replace essential items and start to rebuild her life.

If you don't already have the pleasure of knowing Grandma, here is just a small piece of her life story:
Roberta Carmons was born on a plantation in Canfield, Arkansas in 1925. She and her late husband Leroy 'Chico' Carmons had 8 children; Brenda L. Dunson and Juan Jose Dunson are alive today. Her daughter Dr. Carrie L. Dunson passed just last March. Now 95 years old, Grandma has lived in her home in Center City for the last 40 years. Her house is a central hub for 5 generations of family, including 30+ grandchildren and too many great-grandbabies and great-great-grandbabies to count!
When not working as a full-time Grandmother, Robert Carmons served 30 years on the Election Board, worked as the PTA President at the C.A. Franklin School, and (since age 18!) has been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star (Bethleham chapter #59 OES) in Kansas City, KS. Grandma currently attends the New Vision Christian Church on Blue Ridge Rd.
Her great-granddaughter Monique says "Grandma would do anything for my kids, she'd do anything for anybody."
Donating to this campaign means helping keep the house alive for the 4th, 5th, 6th generation, and so many more to come!
-----
There is a long list of materials, skills and essential items that are going to be needed in the future. If you feel that you would love to help but cannot do so in a financial way, please comment or contact the organizer for more information on how you can lend a hand. A glimpse of the damages are below.
