Robert's Spinal Surgery & Recovery
Donation protected
Right before Thanksgiving Robert started feeling weakness in one of his legs. Within two weeks his condition rapidly became worse with severe weakness and total muscle loss in both legs to where he could barely walk. He made an appointment right away with his chiropractor in which they could not help him. They told him to go to his primary care doctor right away. As soon as he met with his primary care doctor they sent him directly to our closest hospital so they could do further testing. Our closest hospital was out of network so he could only be seen in the ER. There they did a ct scan and lab work. They did not see anything in the ct scan but his labs showed that he had hypothyroid myopathy which causes loss of muscles and only has a 4-20% recovery rate.
The next day he met back with his primary care doctor in which he felt it was more serious as his condition changed so quickly so he made an emergency appointment with a Kaiser hospital who we have insurance with over an hour away (we only have a clinic where we live) There at the hospital they were worried he might have ALS or MS and wanted to do a Spinal Tap and Muscle testing...right before they did that they decided to do an MRI of his spine in which they found a severe bulging disc that was pressing on his nerves.
With all this information we now know he is going in for an extensive spinal surgery on Wednesday December 19th. Robert will most likely spend the night one or two nights and then after that he will be off of work for 2 months and will need me to bring him to physical therapy.
The reason we started this go fund me page is because we have been hitting road blocks in getting help through our county for short term disability. There are no resources for us. We might get help one month for rent at our RV Resort from one organization yet they will only help us if we have proof our rent will be paid the following months. With him not working for two months we can't get proof of income so this may be hard to get. Robert is the sole provider for our household so this has been very hard on our family.
We are also in need of a place for hopefully two weeks as our RV will be too hard for Robert to maneuver around during his recovery right after surgery. We reached out to our church to inquire if somebody might be out of town during the holidays in which we can stay in their home closer to the hospital or we may need to stay at an inn & suites which will cost more money.
We are not ones that like to reach out for help, yet this time in our lives we are in need of help and would be grateful for anything, especially your prayers!
Thank you so much and Lord bless you,
